This is the story of Hare, who struggles with an un-named mental malady self described as ‘noise’. Noise could be runaway thoughts, voices in Hare’s head, or loud feelings and general anxiety. Hare goes on a journey to find a solution. A friend, Ruru flies calmly down and offers a solution.

Hare and Ruru was awarded the Russell Clark Award for Best Illustrated Book at the 2021 New Zealand Book Awards for Children and Young Adults.

About the Author

Laura Shallcrass is an exceptional visual artist and author, her work celebrating nature and natural beauty. Her storytelling uses a style of quiet, contemplative poetry, with multiple visual narratives. Laura works out of her home in Queenstown, New Zealand.
