Training Workshops
PANZ surveys clearly show that members prioritise chances for networking with other publishers and courses in areas including:
- Digital publishing
- Digital marketing
- Rights
- Contracts
The training workshops are intended to differentiate between beginner and intermediate courses, with overseas presenters brought in where possible and desirable. Regular networking events are held in Auckland and Wellington, with audio-visual links to members elsewhere.
Whitireia Publishing Programme
Whitireia Polytechnic’s Graduate Diploma in Publishing provides a key training path for the book industry in New Zealand. Based at Whitireia’s Te Kāhui Auaha campus in Wellington, the diploma provides an introduction to all aspects of the publishing process, including editing, marketing and book production.
Intern Programme
PANZ and Whitireia’s Graduate Diploma in Publishing programme, in association with Creative New Zealand, provide internship opportunities for three new graduates of the programme to enter the publishing industry each year.

This interactive program at Yale offers a distinctive educational experience for mid- to senior-level publishing professionals. The cutting-edge curriculum tackles today’s most crucial issues – from innovative ways to increase revenues and integrate your print and digital strategies to brand
extension in an ever-expanding global economy. The program combines provocative lectures with smaller group discussions and mentoring sessions with expert industry leaders and faculty members from the Yale School of Management. Enrollment is limited to 70 participants.
